Parenting Renewal – Loving Your Child
I listen to a lot of podcasts, audio books, and sometimes movies while I’m sewing. Since I sew pretty much every day, that allows me plenty of listening time.
This weekend I listened to a two part series called “Conveying God’s Love Through Discipline” Part 1 and Part 2 on Focus on the Family. It was an interview with Jim and Lynn Jackson.
Here are my notes from the interview:
What is going on in my heart? What is going on in my child’s heart?
Slow, Low, Listen vs. Fast, Large, Loud
Be the parent I need to be.
My child’s behavior is NOT my parenting report card.
Build a nest of grace to accountability.
The 4 Key Points on Conveying Love to Your Child
- You are safe. (Physically and Emotionally)
- You are loved.
- You are called and capable to make wise decisions.
- You are responsible.
This also made me think of this acrostic we saw several years ago. It’s a good one and lines up with Philippians 4:8-9
I don’t know about you, but I am always working at being intentional in all my relationships. God, Husband, Children, Family, and Friends. I’m also always trying to learn and improve.
Another book for my ever growing reading list!

Hi, Remember to be consistent and always follow through on previously made guidelines/commitments. Love you.
This was excellent Janet and something really good for me to hear today. God’s blessings on your family tonight!
